Greece: Ancient Agora

On our way out of the Acropolis there were these great trees all around. It was nice to catch some shade because once over the hill we weren't able to feel any breeze at all! This is the exit door heading down the mountain from the acropolis... See all these people! It was pretty crowded but I hear that there is actually a lot more people in the heat of summer!
After we finished at the acropolis we stopped on this hill. There were stairs leading up to the top and a whole bunch of people on top! This is where we enjoyed our lunch of granola bars and shared pringles! Turns out this is where ancient trials were held concerning really grave sins such as murder! Later on it was also used as a grave yard... it made a really good spot for lunch though!

This is a church inside of the ancient agora. Brent and I both thought that this looked way too new to be apart of the site, but it turns out it is still 1000 years old. It was dedicated to the apostles, and stands where Paul taught.

This is the inside. It doesn't look this the painting on the ceiling had been restored in a really long time, if ever!
Brent in front of the alter!

This is us in the market place. A lot of what remains now are just the foundations of the places that once stood here. Brent was really impressed because this is where Paul preached about the unknown god! I loved having that history and real aspect to it all!

On one side they had this museum. The pillars are original but that is about it. Everything else had been restored.
Which one of THESE is not like the other one? 1,000,000 points to anyone who gets it right!
We got in trouble for this one because we used a flash and we posed with the statues, both not okay in the museums.
This is the outside of the museum from the other side! Look at how massive this structure is!
These are the statues that stood in front of the Sport's Center back in the day. There was actually 12 of them but this is all that remains!
Then we came here! This is one of the best remaining structures! It is called the Temple of Hephaitsos. He was one of the gods of weaponry, so right next to the temple on the hill was his armory, or at least what they think is the armory!
This is what we found on the way out... yes that is a right it is a hole! What is special about this hole is that it is meant for Sacrifices to the Dead... notice Brent is about to make himself part of that!
The Ancient Agora was really neat! There was so much left around. There were a lot of remains of the store fronts and everything. There is so much history in some of these places so it was fun to relive that for an afternoon!

That looks really fun! I wish that we had random stuff like that just laying around that we could look at
: )

It's amazing how big those columns are. Can you imagine how much work it must have taken them to build those structures without all the modern tools we have? Pretty incredible. P.S. I love your shirt, Mal.

I feel like you should break into a rousing rendition of "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked". Can't you just feel the 1,000 of years of history?
