Conference Weekend: Saturday

Well, I told you all that I would write again and I am! Well to start some of you know that Kara came into town for conference weekend to see her dad and sisters (megs and jen). Well I don't know why they did it, but they let me tag along for the whole day! First they went and got pedicures but I had some homework I needed to finish up. After they came and picked me up! We first went to Kohls because Jenny is still on a mad hunt for a job and Kara thought that her wardrobe may be holding her back a little bit. After searching for about an hour we were able to find a really cute, and inexpensive outfit perfect for all of her interviewing needs!

After that we were STARVING! Kara had missed one food place since moving out to California which is KNEADERS. We had delicious Turkey, Bacon, and Avacado sandwhiches. I had been there a few times and wasn't too impressed but now I know what to get and it is a lot better! We just sat around and talked and it was nice to hear that Kara felt similarly about being a college graduate, to me. Which is we both enjoyed college but don't feel it prepared us for anything!

After that we ran around to different places, like Micheals and Shop-ko. After that we ran back to our place, where brent was diligently doing homework, to watch the second session of conference.

We had to stop at Shop Ko to get hair dye, since megan wanted to die her hair again. Well she got a different color than she did last time and it kinda turned out... the color of a fire truck... well we figured Uncle Bob was not going to like it at all, so Jenny and I ran to walmart and got an Ash color to dull the red. It look pretty in the end, but it was touch and go there at the end.

After that they invited me up to visit doug and the kids. Once we got up to their apartment in salt lake we made soup, salad and rolls which was all delicious. Doug then checked out my teeth to let me know what I need to get done which was super nice... after he finished, Evie took a turn to check out my teeth and she gave me a clean bill of health!

After dinner it was playing with Evie time and just chatting. Doug pulled out his class slideshows to show Jenny, Megan, and me what he deals with all day! There were a ton of gross things! Every lump, bump, or growth filled with infection and gross color was in that slide show and I decided to never become a doctor.

After relaxing and playing around it was time to go home! Jenny took me back down and brent and I relaxed for the rest of the night.

It was so much fun seeing Kara! I always forget how much fun it is to have family around and since Brent and I are so far away from Mine and His it is so nice that they included me in all the fun! It was a great day! Stay tuned for Conference Weekend: Sunday! It is going to be a lot of fun!

Conference Weekend: PRELUDE!

Twice a year conference weekend comes along. Brent and I usually look forward to the peace and calm of the weekend as we get to listen to the messages of the Apostles and Prophets and this weekend was no exception! Usually we just meet up with friends to listen to conference but this weekend we, well more accurately I, got a little bit more than usual. So much Happened this weekend you are going to get it in three posts!!!

It all started on Friday night when Brent got an e-mail that he has been asked to join the Moot Court team. Since most of you have no idea what that is, I will explain. In law school there are three prestigious clubs Law Review, Moot Court, and Trial Ad, which in the order from the prestigious to the least. Well Brent got to the semi finals but then got beat out by the girl who won it all, and thought he didn't have a chance!

Here is the problem, Law review is really intense and the try out is the week after finals and it is a 40 hour, week long try out, and a lot of work if he gets on the Review. Brent is more nervous about Law Review rather than excited, but he is super excited about Moot Court. So the dilemma is... Does Brent try out for Law Review and give up Moot court but keep some doors open for the future he is not sure that he will want or does he not try out and we get to go to Boise and Oregon a Week earlier. HELP US DECIDE: in the pole next.

Friday Night we went to an indoor BBQ, while it was snowing, for one of Brent's writing classes. It was a lot of fun getting to know the people who Brent spends the majority of his day with! There were a lot of really fun people and a ton of really great food! I couldn't believe how much I ate! It was ridiculous! There was burgers, hot dogs, broccoli salad, strawberry bacon salad with a vinaigrette and fruit and veggies of ALL KINDS! His teachers house was so beautiful, and big and we told her that one day we hope to live in the metaphorically down the street!

Brent also got the 100% award for the most 100% on quizzes! I also met one of the wives of one of Brent's really good friends and study buddies! She is really amazing and they just had a baby a little while ago so they are really busy but we told them to call us if they ever need a night out!

Festival of Colors

Well, Brent is in full finals mode, but that doesn't mean that I can't have my fun too! Well, I have a small list of things that I want to do before I leave Provo. One of those things was attending the festival of Colors. Now I did a post on the Krishna Temple a few weeks back and we found out when the Festival of Colors were. So Jenny and I decided to go.

Over 10,000 people show up every year so we had to park only two blocks away, some people had to park almost three miles away! That is why we decided to go an hour early!

The Festival Started at 4:00 pm, but the colors were until 5:30 so we kept ourselves busy by feeding the llamas and looking around.

The we just relaxed on the Lawn watching the dancers. The main guy was kinda crazy, you could tell his rhetoric was sometimes aimed at the Large LDS population, which was kinda funny!

So the Above was a picture before, and some of you may ask what happens at this festival, well they light a "witch" and then everyone throws colored chalk everywhere, here is what the madness looks like!

Here is how we looked when we came out! It was crazy and I am positive it is going to be hard getting the chalk out of the car!

It was a lot of fun, but I doubt I will go again without Brent. It was terrible not having him there, but it was fun to cross one of the things off my list! If you ever live in Provo you should definatley make a stop by the Festival!

Update!

Every now and again I have nothing that is terribly interesting to report, but there are some minor changes that have occurred. So like all of those times it is time for a Huntley Family update!

1.) We are officially moving to OREGON!!! Well at least for the Summer. We are both very excited to get out of Utah for the summer. Brent will be working with Bro. Kerr, someone from the homeward. We will be leaving Utah on May 1st (at the latest) and stopping in Boise for a day or two to visit friends and family, we should be in oregon city on the 5th or 6th.
Because of this I have made a list of deep cleaning I want to get done before we leave, so hopefully that will help fill my empty days!
We are also planning on leaving for the summer and we REALLY REALLY want to keep our apartment, but it would be great if we could find someone to sublease it, even at a fraction of the real price. So if ANYONE knows in the area who would like to have a nice apartment to themselves for the summer including washer and drying and dishwasher if you could let me know that would be amazing and that would help save us so much money!

2.) My last day at Icon was last Friday. Today was my first weekday of nothing to do since September, and to be honest I didn't love it. I thought I would commemorate the day by sleeping in late, but I started getting phone calls at 7:00am! So the luxury of sleeping in was not really what I wanted it to be. I have timed out the rest of my homework, but I really have little left to do.

3.) Brent is working hard on studying for finals but he took some time out to play on the Ward Basketball team! They made it to the REGIONALS and even made it to the Elite Eight in that category! He loved getting out and getting some physical activity.

4.) I am still puttering away towards my degree and with only three weeks left I am seeing the end of the tunnel! I have finished all of my papers and assignments for two weeks out and after I finish one last paper (which I plan to Finish this week) I will have to only worry about finals. I am not going to lie, senioritis has hit me hard! Working 40 hours a week and going to school full time was really difficult so I am glad to just pass (although I am sure I did better than I think I did).

5.) I got a job in Oregon City for the Summer! I am going to be the camp director for Rivercrest Summer Camp. I am pretty excited an nervous! I get to work with and old friend, Sheena, and it has been a while since I have been back in the loop! I still need a job for the months up to then, so if there are any ideas please let me know!

6.) Brent and I have started planning mini vacations we can take. So far the plans are Seattle, Vancouver Canada, The Coast and anywhere else that we may be able to escape for a weekend! If you have any other ideas that would be great!

Well I think that is all that is really going on! We are going to a Luau tonight so there should be fun pictures about that later... Remember I need two things from anyone and everyone... 1.) Someone who might be interested in subleasing in our apartment and 2.) any other great close vacation ideas

Weekend Adventures!

Well we have got to eliminate 7 more days from our count down to graduation calender! We are left with 4 and a half more weeks of school! With this semester seeming to wrap up much more quickly than it began I had to get on some of my outside of class assignments! For one of these classes I had to participate in 2 inter ethnic activities. One of these that I had wanted to go to in since I found out it existed, the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple! This is a Hindu based religion that has a Utah sect. So I thought I would post some fun facts along with the pictures we took!

Hindu's recognize that the cells in our body change out completely about every 7 years so we reincarnate through out our lifetime. They also use this to recognize that the bodies are always changing and therefore the should is what is important... This is Brent and I in front of the temple! It is very pretty on the outside!

Those who practice Hindu are vegetarians since everything has a soul (since the body isn't important) and so they only eat things that are dead or in the process of dying when they are eaten such as grain or apples! This is one of the ornate statues outside of the temple! Jenny had such a fun time revisiting the Eastern Religion.

There are peacocks and Llama's that run free around the property. It is the peacock and Lotus leaf that are very symbolic to the Krishna because the lotus flower represent that an individual can be in the world and not of the world (because the lotus grows above water not in it). Also the pose which we see most hindu God's (the crossed legs) is the Lotus position in Yoga and is considered the way to communicate most cloesly with God. Jennifer and I had fun petting and feeding the Llama's weeds, until we realized the Krishna probably wouldn't have picked the weeds to feed the Llama... oops!

Overall it was a very fun experience and it was a ton of fun to have my two best friends in town at once! Jenny hung out the rest of the day and Jennifer came back on SSunday for dinner and a fun round of Phase 10! Kim, Jennifer's sister, ended up winning but it was a race to the finish! I have officially decided that I need to make a trip up to visit Jennifer in LLogan so expect that post in the next month!

Scripture Case

Today was an odd weekend, Brent had to stay at school for 8 hours today which left me home all alone :( I had seen these cute scripture cases that one of the kids in primary had. It was bright color and patterned and all around the outside were individual pouches for crayons! I fell in love and thought it was a such a fun idea. Well I had made a quilt for Braden so I figured it was time I shared the beauty and made something fr some of my other Nephews. So For William and Michael I decided to make these scripture cases. I thought it was going to be a lot more difficult but it turned out to be pretty easy and VERY time consuming! Luckily it kept me busy all day and afterword we had a fun Bonfire with friends in the snow! Just to let you know, it is still a little to cold for Bonfires!

First you start by adding some fun patterns on the fabric to give it a quilted effect and to support the fabric to make it more thick

The you cute two 4-5" strips in a different fun fabric to make the crayon pouches
You sow one onto the bottom of the backing, about 2-3" from the bottom, make sure to sew the bottom of this on so they crayons don't fall through

Sow the second strip on so it goes along the bottom of the original panel (orange one) so there is a nice layered effect. Then you sow strips up the green fabric about 1.5" apart to create the slots.

Then you sow them inside out, and add handles and here is what you get! There is enough to carry 30 crayons and the actual case is big enough fro scriptures and coloring books! I had a lot of fun making it... I just hope that William and Michael won't look to closely at everything that doesn't match up.

Quilting in where I started sewing and I like it because it hides a lot of flaws and the bright yellow thread I used definitely didn't so there are some many things I wish I would have been more careful with, but overall I really enjoyed trying to sew something different than a blanket. Since I made these for the boys I am going to attempt to make skirts for the girls! I think they will really like them! What does everyone else think my project after skirts should be?

Anywhere but Here!

Ok, So I am seriously considering quitting school, or work, or both! This week has been utterly pointless in all respect. It is not unmanageable simply the most boring semester of my life. My classes are dull and basically the unimaginative rhetoric of professors who really have little insight to share. Both of my jobs are going well enough, but the holiday that we had Monday was so nice, I am having trouble readjusting my mindset to homework and school mode! I am perfectly aware that life is not a 24-7 action packed event but I doubt it was ever intended to be a constant monotony of sitting and listening in various locations. So I decided to make a list of things I am so tempted to do instead of trying to make it through another week of my currently mundane life (note this is a partial list, the full list would fill a dictionary):

4.) Go see Twilight... again. I know it has mixed reviews but this sappy, corny, dramatic teenage drama is currently one of my favorites and as Brent can testify I have been a little (or a lot) obsessed with it! The dollar theatre has made it very very accessible to me, and so I saw it twice this past weekend and you better believe I would love to ditch school and work for my third viewing!

3.) Go To Hawaii-- Doesn't laying on the beach before going Boogie Boarding sound like the MOST AMAZING THING in the world to anyone else! I am craving some wave time, and I think Hawaii would hit the spot splendidly! At this point I am ready to book tickets online for this summer, but decided to wait because I realize I may be suffering from a slight case of senioritis.


2.) Hold Braden-- Who is that? That is my cutest baby Nephew in the world, and for some reason his parents feel the need to live 10 hours away from me! This is pretty much a "How Dare You" Situation especially when you see Brado smile. I made him a baby blanket, and he should be getting it any day now... I would much rather be in Pullman playing with my nephew than at any desk in the world!

1.) Not Have my mom tell me "Told you So!"-- Oh who is that proud looking mother in the picture? Yes, that is my Mama Bear, and I love her dearly but does she have to be right about 99.9% of everything in my life? I know when I refuse to listen to her advice and think she lacks knowledge of my immense will power, I am eventually wrong and she was never concerned about will power but my actual happiness. Oh Mama Bear, one day I will make the right choices I swear!


So Now you all know what I would rather be doing and I can not truly believe I am in my little rut alone, so what would everyone else be doing right now?!
