We woke up early on the second day, because this was going to be the longest day of our journey! We were headed to Hunedoara and then we had to drive about 5 hours to Brosov (our next sleeping point!) For the most part driving in Romania was a little less than terrifying at alkl times! Drivers here speed but that isn't the scary part, it is the passing! You would think with an oncoming car they would wait, and you would be wrong. They go for it and HARD! They will cut you off to get back over and then slow down! If they don't make it before the oncoming car it simply turns into a three lane road until they do pass! Needless to say we ended up witnessing one accident and the remnants of many more, especially semi's!
This was a temporary bridge we had to cross! It was one way at a time!
Turns out the bridge is just a bunch of boats tied together. Brent said this is a military type thing which makes sense because there were military personnel all over the place!
After the 1.5 hours we arrived at Hunedora! For those who don't know this is where Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned for 7 years before he became the infamous Dracula!
It was a really gorgeous castle! The green everywhere was amazing and the castle looked like it was straight from a book!
Inside there was a great courtyard! We pretty much had free reign anywhere we wanted to go and it was 26 Lei for everyone including two camera tickets (about $9.00 USD)
Brent and I dancing in the great hall!
Can't you tell we were born for royalty!??! We tried moving one of these chairs to get a good picture and it started falling apart so we just left it where it was!
The group of four touring away! I loved having these guys along! It made the drive go by so much faster and they are so fun to vacation with! I can't say enough good things about the Buck's!
These are some of the flags that have represented the castle at different points! I think all the emblems look like childrens drawings myself!
One passageway had four different levels! It was hard to get a picture of it but it helped the feeling of running around in one of those endless mazes!
This picture was taken from one of the windows in the old friar's room! These windows were everywhere and I thought this one is very artsy!
This is the friors fireplace!
My borther in law Sean wanted a lynx... well wwe found one hanging up for him!
the outside courtyard was amazing! How cool are all those engravings?!
Brent couldn't help but climb the walls. So much of this place was in ruins, so you could see doors 3 floors up that must have led somewhere at some point!
The view from one of the lookouts! This place was absolutley magical. I wasn't sure what to expect from Transylvania but this first adventure really took me to a magical place! It was funny how all the doors were about half size and the stair were not even, but I loved it!
The last place we stopped before leaving was the jail! This is probably where Dracula spent some of his time! See the fuzzy spot next to Brent? Maybe that is a ghost or something? I will have to defer that judgment to Kalen (little sis) who watches a lot more ghost shows than I do!
Oh ya, I kinda got shackled on the way out! Not my proudest moment!
Hunedoara was so gorgeous, exactly what we were expecting from the homeland of Dracula (Big, Stone, Scary ect) but what was scarier was what happened when we tried to leave...
DEA BATTERY! We drove a Deawoo and apparently the battery should have been changed forever ago. There was this really nice Romanian man who stopped and helped us get a taxi to bring jumper cables (literally just wire that he touched to the batteries with his bare hands) to get it started! This guy really went above and beyond! He was so kinda!
After the car got started we were to afraid to stop again so we drove the 5 hours to Brasov, our next sleeping point!
