I have a wonderful cousin (Kara) who married a military man (Doug)! That means that every three years they move, which means every three years we get to go visit them, well Maren goes and I get to tag along! Their last locale was San Diego and now they reside in San Antonio. Kara is such a good hostess that we always have an amazing time while doing no prep ourselves, I wish every vacation was like these trips. One of the sites we visited was the Alamo.
I have to be honest, I know nothing about the Alamo. I went there and I still don't. I even tried to read all the placards but it just wasn't happening, so I enjoyed the ambiance instead.
I was surprised by how small the front was. I wasn't expecting it to be huge but as you can tell it is a very short two stories.
The grounds were very beautiful. Harper was crawling, which means her stroller and being held were NOT an option.
One thing I miss while living in Las Vegas is trees. I know I was spoiled growing up in oregon but that tree behind us is BEGGING to be climbed.
Family on a cannon.

Playing with dad!
One thing I have noticed about travelling with Harper is most our time is just spent trying to keep her happy. She is SO active and SO curious that she is not content just sitting and waiting. The second she crawled she wasn't happy sitting. Her first steps meant that she had to walk everywhere and inspect everything for herself! With a face like that I guess I can continue to be exhausted by her!
Maren does a great job helping her kids learn about the places they are going. Braden was very interested in Davy Crockett and wanted to see where he was buried. Only when we were almost done at the alamo was it revealed that he wasn't buried there and his grave was pretty far away. Being the thinkers we are we just told him that this monument was his grave... Does this make us bad aunts, uncles and parents? Probably, but this would be one awesome grave. Sorry Braden!
I love learning about history but it looks like this one just didn't manage to hit home for me. I did have a wonderful time sharing the experience with my family!
